Unit Tests Are Free in TDD

Think that writting tests is going to slow you down? Cory Foy doesn’t think so. I have to add a note that these types of comparisons work for teams and people that have experience using TDD. If you’re just trying out TDD expect to be slower intitally because you are learning how to use a new tool.

Just for fun, let’s compare and contrast! Playing the role of current development is "hunt and peck" typing. The role of Test Driven Development will be championed by keyboarding with "the homerow". Sure you get the job done pretty fast with two fingers, but most people would agree that it isn’t the fastest way to type. Knowing this, you start to learn how to keyboard; it’s slow and frustrating at first. Soon though, you’ve gone from 20 WPM to 40WPM and you’re wondering how you ever got along in the first place. So, moral of the story? Stick with TDD for a while and you’ll be happy you did.
