I answer questions on IRC every day… most questions can be answered by searching the manual. I personally search the manual about 5-10 times per day. I’d suggest that every MySQL users create a FireFox keyword search for the manual an save themselves some trouble.
- Navigate to http://dev.mysql.com/doc/ and choose "HTML, Viewable online" for your version.
- Right click in the "Search" box and choose "Add keyword for this search"
- Choose a name and and appropriate keyword for it. I entered "MySQL Searchable Manual" and "mysql" for my entries.
- Hit ok. Now when you have a question you just type "mysql <your_keyword>" into the address bar and BLAMO!
This will save you at least 1 page load ( 5-10 seconds and some typing… If you do this often enough you’ve saved yourself hours in the course of a year. If you’re forgetful like I am, it could save you even more time. For more info see this article Using Keyword Searches in FireFox.
Updated to reflect the new manual per version layouts.
