Finish what you start… especially if you set passwords.
Today I spent about 3 hours brute forcing the password I set on my WRT54G Linksys Router. About a month and a half ago I “installed” the Sveasoft firmware on the router and set a quasi random password for the root account. I then didn’t finish the configuration and forgot the password. Its normally possible to simply reload the firmware… unless you press and hold the reset button on the router for 10 to 15 seconds while the router reboots, which I did. So I was left without the ability to reset the router to its firmware defaults without taking it apart and bridging some pins inside the box.
So, moral of the story, finish what you start.
I’ve been trying to figure out my WRT54G password but I can’t remember it. Resetting isn’t an option since I would lose all my settings, which are set just right for a house with 8 computers and invidual port-forwarding for bittorrent and edonkey are all set for each of them (I’d really like to avoid having to figure that out all over again). If you could guide me in the right direction as to how to run a brute force password check on it, I’d really appreciate it.
